whimsical wedding at walnut lane

We love when weddings bring together several unique elements to create that fairy-tale-esque, whimsical feel. Jade and Steven Jones' wedding captured this theme perfectly, from the fairy-winged flower girls to the mixed styles of lavender bridesmaids dresses, this wedding felt like a gorgeous garden party.

How did you and your fiancé meet and begin dating?

"We were introduced by mutual friends about two years before we started dating. Those two years, we became close friends and bonded over a mutual love of ACC basketball. We would meet out to watch our favorite teams play. It didn't take long for our friendship to grow into love."

Was it love at first sight?

" It was for Steven! haha! According to friends- the first time he met me, he had to know everything about me. Seriously though, looking back, there was something there from day one. We were so young (ten years ago) that I doubt we recognized quite what it was at the time; however, I know there was a bond from the start."

The proposal

"We were in Asheville visiting friends and seeing our favorite band- Widespread Panic in November of 2013. Steven had been secretly planning his proposal for several weeks leading up to the trip. He had our friend pretend like he had found this awesome place up there that we "just had to see." So, we hiked to the top of Little Pisgah Mountain (me somewhat complaining the whole time because I was hungry)to see this amazing place that our friend had found. It was a sight! One of the highest points in the region, seeing all the way to South Carolina! Once we were up there, Steven began pointing out sights to me. He then took a step back and got down on one knee to propose. I was so shocked that I got down on the ground with him. The engagement ring had been his mothers engagement ring from his late father. Very special! He nailed it! He was so proud of himself!"

What was the most unique element of your wedding day?

"I think that the venue is very unique! Also, my 3 flower girls wore floor length tutus that I personally made for them. They also wore fairy wings that I assembled with peach roses on the back. They were so cute! We added a lot of personal touches to our day, from our programs to the décor...and we even had two of our favorite bar tenders work the bar at our reception."

Did you use TriadWeddings Magazine to help with your planning process and vendor selection?

"I LOVED reading TriadWeddings while I was planning my wedding! I most certainly checked out every single photographer and videographer featured in TriadWeddings. I enjoyed seeing what other brides in the area were doing...seeing all of the different ideas and visions gave me a since of confidence in the direction that I wanted to take my wedding. Ultimately, it's YOUR day so go with your heart! Everything will come together. Seeing my vision come to life on my wedding day was so cool! Ultimately, having a LOCAL bridal magazine is practical and I am grateful! Thank you TriadWeddings!"

Overall, how did you feel about your special day?

"Our wedding day was perfect. It was a beautiful Spring day filled with sunshine! We had an outdoor event, so the weather alone made us all so happy! I was able to watch from the upstairs window of the house as guests began arriving within the hour before the ceremony. I really enjoyed that! I could see the entire day come to life from the upstairs as I was getting ready with my best friends. We had about 150 guests. The greenery surrounding the venue was a perfect backdrop for a spring wedding. The ceremony was a somewhat traditional Christian ceremony with some added touches. We did a southern style buffet with pork loin, chicken, mash potatoes, macaroni & Cheese and green beans. Everyone really loved the food! We had an amazing live band that are all friends of ours. A couple of our groomsmen even played in the band. All in all- it was a laid back, fun wedding!"
