Lindsey & Tanner

Lindsey and Tanner are proud to say they are middle school sweethearts! They met in middle school when Lindsey went to a friend’s basketball game and Tanner was on the team. They were briefly introduced and it was awkward, as is everything in middle school. Tanner got her AOL instant messenger user name and they started chatting online and calling each other daily. They continued to grow closer and closer through high school and college, and somewhere along their journey, they fell in love.

Tanner planned the most perfect proposal which consisted of a scavenger hunt around Lindsey’s favorite spots at UNC (her alma mater), leading to him proposing at the Old Well.

I met three of my girlfriends at one of my favorite Chapel Hill lunch spots. I ordered my usual and when I sat down to unwrap my BLT, there was a note in my sandwich. I was so confused, and when I looked up at my friends they all had cameras in my face. I read the card, which stated ‘Lindsey - today is the day! For your next clue, go and order your favorite sweet treat. PS, make sure to keep your receipt!’ I was so emotional that I didn’t really understand the clue. I tried to go back in the restaurant to order a dessert, but luckily my girlfriends were there to help me out. What he meant was for us to go to YoPo, my favorite Chapel Hill frozen yogurt place. If you keep your receipts at this place you can add up and get a free dessert, which is what the clue was pointing to! We all got froyo and the cashier handed me my next clue, which led us to Top of the Hill for a glass of champagne! My final clue led us to the Old Well, where my sweet man got down on one knee and was barely able to get any words out before I said, “of course!” He had our friend hiding in the bushes to get pictures, and afterwards Tanner had planned a surprise party at a local wine bar with our family and friends! It was the sweetest and most perfect day all revolving around food and Chapel Hill - two of my favorite things!

Since they were having their reception at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, the couple had an “elegant garden party” theme in mind. They had tons of flowers that reflected the colors in the gardens. They also had a laurel wreath on their invitations, and for favors, they gave out seed packets displayed in a tiny wheelbarrow that were stamped with their laurel wreath logo.

Our colors were grey, blush tones, peach tones and green. I just love the way soft pastel colors look against grey dresses, so that’s what we went with!
One of my favorite elements of our wedding day was during our ceremony. During our dedication prayer, we had our entire bridal party surround us, and all of our guests symbolically reached out towards us during the prayer. It felt so powerful to feel the support and love that was in the room for us.
Another unique part of our wedding was the father/daughter dance. My father passed away when I was in high school, but all of my uncles really stepped up and have all been father figures to me. During that dance, all of my uncles took turns dancing with me to the song “Butterfly Kisses,” which is the last song I danced with my dad to. It was an incredibly special moment, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience!
Our wedding day was easily the best day of our lives. We constantly look back on it and wish we could relive it! We couldn’t have asked for better weather in August - sunny and 80 degrees with a breeze! Both the girls and the boys got ready at the Botanical Gardens, the girls with mimosas in hand. We then made the short drive to the ceremony location and had the most beautiful celebration of commitment. We took pictures while our guests enjoyed cocktail hour at the gardens. We made our grand entrance, ate, and danced the night away! We brought out glow sticks on the dance floor and our guests used them for a fun glow stick send-off. The entire day was filled with so much emotion - we laughed, we cried, we smiled, but mostly we were filled with intense joy.
