colorfully vintage wedding at adaumont farm

We love when a wedding really reflects the personality of the bride and groom. This ceremony was no exception! Amber and Nicholas shared their rustic spring wedding at Adaumont Farm with us, and not a single detail was boring. We especially loved the choice of two different colors for the bridesmaids dresses. With the blend of two darker spearmint colored dresses and seven other lighter colored gowns, a beautiful ombré effect was created and really complemented this wedding's unique style. From the creative spins on classic attire (like the bride's fabulous spearmint and gold Jack Rogers) to the fun photobooth props, this wedding fully encompasses the energy of this couple.

how they met

"We met through a mutual friend at a pool party in May of 2012 in Columbia, South Carolina. I was in college at the University of South Carolina and he was working in HVAC. We had a great day together and exchanged numbers. I hadn't heard from him in almost a month when I received a Facebook message from him saying that the day after we met, he was thrown off of his boat with his phone and wallet in his pocket and he had lost my number. Then he asked me to go out on the lake that evening on his boat for our first date. I met all of his friends and we actually ended up camping out on an island that night. And the rest is history."

was it love at first sight?

"It was definitely love at first date. After our amazing first date, I knew I would be falling in love with this man."

the proposal

"It was March of 2014 and a month before I graduated from Nursing School when he proposed. Nick and my best friend asked me if we could go to campus to take graduation pictures. All morning they were rushing me to get to campus to take these pictures. Well I had no idea what they were up to. Finally we got to campus and Nick was acting strange. We took a few pictures all over campus and finally came to the beautiful fountain in front of the Thomas Cooper Library. Nick and I were posing together taking pictures when all of a sudden he dropped to his knees and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I of course said yes and everyone around the fountain started cheering!"

did you use TriadWeddings Magazine to help with your planning process and vendor selection?

"I did! I got so many ideas and vendors from TriadWeddings!"

what was the most unique element of your wedding day?

"The venue itself was full of beautiful surprises and endless things to do and see. Each room of the barn was different exciting. Everything about our wedding reflected our own unique tastes and personalities. A few unique things included the handmade bowties, the Buffalo Bill's garter, the old Chevy truck, tying the knot, our signature cocktail of Shirley Temples, our handmade cornhole boards, and the oyster roast and the custom stemless wine glass favors."

what was your favorite part of the day?

"I was initially really skeptical about the first look, but our photographer [J&A photography] actually recommended it. When you're walking down the aisle, all eyes are on the groom, and sometimes due to nerves the bride doesn't get the 'look' she wants. When he took the blindfold off, he cried. I got the look I wanted, and I was able to fully absorb the moment in the intimacy of the situation. I recommend first looks to all future brides now. That was my favorite part."

any special notes on the day?

"PERFECTION, there is no other word to describe our wedding day. Everything went smoothly. Only a few minor things went wrong, but there was nothing that was going to ruin my happiness. Several days before the big day it had been rainy and gloomy. We were all worried that this would be the case for the wedding day and being an outdoor wedding brought a little extra worry. The morning of the wedding, we woke up to clear and beautiful blue skies. The girls and I arrived to the barn around 9am to start with hair and make-up. The guys also arrived around that time to the groomsman's lodge located on the farm a short drive away to shoot skeet and grill out. I was a little anxious to see my soon-to-be husband, but no real anxiety about the day in general. I kept hearing everyone say how weird it was that I was so laid back and calm. Once the hair and make-up was finished, Nick and I made our way to the covered bridge to do our first-look pictures. There were so many emotions coursing through my body as I walked up to greet my blindfolded husband. Once we read our letters to each other he took off the blind fold and the look on his face was one that I will never forget. I got that look that every bride dreams of and so much more. After we took our pictures with each other and our wedding party we left to go get last minute things ready before walking down the aisle. My dad drove me up to the ceremony in his old baby blue Chevy truck. I was so excited to see everyone who came and to see my husband waiting on me at the altar. Having the intimate first look with my husband definitely took away all of my nerves and I was left with so much excitement and happiness. I was able to fully absorb and enjoy every minute of our ceremony without being nervous. The ceremony was beautiful and fully represented Nick and me. Of course we messed up on our vows, but we just laughed it off and kept going. After we tied the knot, literally, we danced our way back to down the aisle and took our pictures with family. Then, it was time to party! The night was full of cocktails, amazing oysters and southern food, dancing, and so much joy and laughter. Everyone, young and old, danced the night away. The night went by so quickly that I thought it was a joke when the wedding planner said it was time for our last dance. I couldn't believe that after a year of planning that our wedding day was now coming to an end."
